Imposter on the street

Bloglovin’ // Facebook // Twitter

I have something to admit. I am not a real blogger. I am an imposter. Why? Because to be a real blogger, you have to be able to DIY the crap out of everything and any trend. I cannot do that.

I tried. I semi-failed. Semi-failed because I deemed these shorts still wearable. They are supposed to be more… ripped and shredded, you know, awesome. Instead, it looks like I gave up after making the initial incisions. I can assure you that I did not give up.

I ripped, clawed at, used a prickly thing from my dad’s tool box, washed, dried, and repeated. For days.

Apparently, Banana Republic makes their denim tough.

The owner of that beautiful bike was unchaining it to ride it off into the sunset at the moment these photos were taken. Awkward.

I am also not a real blogger because I do not enjoy tea or coffee. And I do not have blogger friends who get together and have bloggy conversations and post photos (although I want to. Badly). I don’t even own a SLR. Or know that that stands for. And I have only observed fashion week via Instagram.

But, I do have a photographer boyfriend. So there.

They aren’t that bad, are they?

The moral of the story is, we can’t all be the picture perfect bloggers that we follow, but we can try our hardest to be our best selves.

Oh also, I have a giveaway. That makes me a real blogger right?

I felt like I was being followed by paparazzi. It was weird.

And I secretly hoped some people around us thought so too. That Ugly Mug was paparazzi, not that it was weird.

Well thank you for being your best self because that is the reason I keep coming back. I love the fact your pictures are natural and not extremely posed or calculated. Being yourself is what is fun about blogging. At least for me. And that’s two of us who cant DIY. My first DIY consisted on sewing buttons to a shirt, how pathetic is that?

  4. What a wonderful post. I can’t do DIY either and I’ve only met one other blogger since I’ve been blogging. I think your shorts turned out well and, hey, at least you have a photographer-boyfriend. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    lovely.

  7. Haha We all can’t be stereotypical blogger people! I do love coffee and tea though… but I don’t sit around and have bloggy conversations with people.
I don’t think the shorts turned out bad. They look distressed and that was the look you were going for. And I really like your top. The color is so nice!

Wonderful outfit! Love the great shirt and how you’ve tucked it into the cut-offs!

  9. I think it’s safe to say you are officially a blogger because they look pretty awesome to me haha!

  10. I think the shorts turned out great! I also love the green top with your hair!

  11. girl, your post seriously made me laugh out loud. so true on so many levels, although i think have a photographer bf moves you up that list rather quickly. getting someone to take your outfit pictures is quite the struggle. i’m right there with you, just keep trying =)

I love this post. DIY is a pain in the butt sometimes. Most of DIY lately is just recreations not original creations lol. I tried ripping jeans and shorts before.. the best method is attempting to do what you did then throw it in the wash to fray. I really love these photos.

  13. Haha ๐Ÿ˜€ At least you don’t miss the most important (+useful) part, which is having a boyfriend-photographer. With the DIY you can work on it, some cool photogenic friends you will find them and everything will be ok. + that’s more than great that you are not a copy of any other blogger.
Great photos, I love this laid-back outfit and the way it looks with the bicycle ๐Ÿ™‚

Haha, I am also an impostor, not real blogger in that case. I only have one blogger friend, but one that doesn’t take pictures of me (she doesn’t even have a proper camera…). I am so not crafty at all. I couldn’t make those shorts, absolutely not, so congrats on that. I cannot cook; not even spaghetti sauce. I can sew a button back on, but there it ends. The only thing I have is that I can take pictures of anything but myself, and I have been called hilarious multiple times. Oh and I love fashion, love to dress up, play with make-up and pretend I am as grown up as my age.

So there. You’re not alone. And you’re pretty fabulous! So why bother?

    Love,
    Jolien

I totally feel like an imposter too! I never DIY, although I do have DIY ambitions. I don’t have an SLR (or know what that means), I don’t drink coffee, or have blogger friends. I’ve never even had a giveaway. Anwyay, your blog is one of my favorite and if you ever make it to LA, I’d be glad to sit around and have bloggy conversations with you! ๐Ÿ™‚

I was smiling and giggling and nodding along at all your “real blogger” quotes. I’ve felt that way too somedays. Your jeans are cool looking, I think (but I’m not too into ripped jeans?)

The whole outfit is one I really like, actually.

Also if you define it by DIying I’m not a good blogger neither, I’m not good at this stuff ๐Ÿ˜‰

It’s ok. Each blogger does her own thing. Althought I too would love to have blog friends who I met up with on the weekends and had brunch with. No coffee or tea for me either.

Ha! I’m not a DIY-er either and definitely wish I were more crafty ๐Ÿ˜‰ I think the shorts look great, though! They don’t have to be totally ripped to shreds to have that “worn in” look. And I think they complement the rest of the outfit so nicely. Love the purple eyeliner too!

  36. Amanda said:

I adore this look, I would love to copy this look.. oh and the shorts look good.. If you wanna go for the more shredded look, then you might wanna try some sand paper and also washing them helps… Amy for the platform (Youtube) did a great DIY on shredding =) … But I totally get what you seeing… thats why Im always scared of oding DIY-s

  37. Lol!
They’re not that bad…I’ll give you that.
And yes…a giveaway definitely makes you a real blogger.

This is seriously my favorite post of yours ever. I feel this way all the time especially since I live in Colorado aka the Square State with no fashion events, no fellow bloggers nearby and the weirdest thrift finds ever. I think you’re a real blogger. And very pretty. And have great style. And your boyfriend’s photography is bad ass. And you’re funny.

  45. love this post and just discovered your blog! I think having a photographer bf trumps everything else. Bravo!

  46. Yesterday was pretty warm but really cloudy. It was perfect for getting some “desolate winter by the water” shots without freezing my buns off. Although I’ve sort of been slacking in the exercise department so it would have been nice if my buns literally had frozen off. You know, nice in a really creepy, not-recommended-by-doctors way.

This post made me laugh! Once I tried to beautifully layer the leftovers from my taco dinner in a mason jar, like I saw on Pinterest. Didn’t think about black beans running into the quinoa leaving a jar full of this http://sisterdisco.com/2012/08/07/go-to-tacos/
