Shoes

I went to Los Angeles this past weekend (hence, the quiet around here), and had the amazing opportunity, once again, to participate in the MusiCares 2012 Person of the Year event, honoring Sir Paul McCartney. I’ve volunteered in the past and have done every job from talent escort to door greeter (this year I was somewhere in the middle ha). It’s always a pleasure working these events because volunteers are invited to watch the show; the same show that 5,000 people paid $1,200-$10,000 a table to be at. I spent the night watching the likes of Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters, Alicia Keys, Katy Perry, Coldplay, James Taylor, and more perform. It was amazing. I look forward to this event each year. I also met Jack Nicholson (a very random guest) – as in spoke to him and shook his hand. In. Sane. By the way, if you ever meet Tony Bennet, be prepared. He’s a wild one! He likes to walk around in the aisle during the Cirque Beatles show. He was almost crushed by men on trumpet stilts. I cannot make this up!

This is not what I wore to the event – I just wanted to brag share my experience with you. I actually wore this to an early Valentine’s dinner with the boy. Since Valentine’s day is on Tuesday and I was in town this weekend (and next weekend actually), we went to dinner on Sunday at Firenze Osteria, which is the restaurant of Fabio Viviani from Top Chef! I am obsessed with Top Chef and Fabio has always been my favorite contestant from that show, so the fact that he has a restaurant mere miles from my boyfriend’s house makes me a very happy girl!

Thank goodness I chose this shift dress for our dinner because dude, I ate. I ate a lot. I eat a lot in general actually, but we ate so much that we had to decline dessert. I’ve never said no to dessert before. I’m not saying we didn’t stop at the store and buy individual slices of cheesecake for later (to compliment the box of chocolates already sitting at home of course). I was happy I could hide my food baby in this dress.

Have you heard of Sole Society? It is a service that sends you a “shoe closet” each month (based on a style quiz that you take, and can re-take or update as well). It is $49.50 per pair of shoes, but you can skip the month if you don’t find a pair you like – no obligations! Basically, you have access to a free personal shopper specifically for shoes. Kind of amazing right? Sole Society was kind enough to send me my first pair to review!

The first thing I need to express is how damn comfortable they are. Not only is the suede itself soft, but it feels like there are built-in inserts. I did not have achy (or cut up) feet at the end of the night! That is a big win for me with shoes. They are also extremely easy to walk in. The comfort plays a part in that, but the heel is actually a reasonable size. Sometimes I don’t want to wear heels that make me taller than my 6’2″ boyfriend, so it was nice to be able to get a shorter pair (but not that tacky gum heel short. Ignore that I said that if you enjoy those type of heels!). These also came at the best time since they match my new dress perfectly. I was ready to be tacky with black heels, but Sole Society saved me!

Another reason I chose these is because I do not own a pair of peep toes. Is that a fashion fail? I’ve never been a big fan of my feet in general, so my first instinct is to keep the all covered up. These babies were the first to break my streak! And no, I am not looking for feet compliments. Because frankly, that’s just weird.

So if something like Sole Society sounds completely awesome to you (which, I don’t know why it wouldn’t), I encourage you to check out the web site (click here) and sign up! Registration is free and you only pay if you choose a pair of shoes!

I liked them so much, I styled another outfit around them that will be up later in the week!
