June gloom has come early! It’s been gloomy and almost on the chilly side in LA lately and I could not be more in love with it!

Summer is right around the corner and my weekends are becoming full with road trips, family gatherings, birthdays, and visions of the beach, barbeques, and probably many weekend afternoons thrift shopping and antique fair hopping. Our little home is finally coming together and we’re looking for a few more unique pieces to add and LA antique thrift stores, flea markets, and antique fairs are almost overwhemlingly stocked. If I can figure out indoor photography, perhaps I will share some photos of my favorite areas when we are finished! I would love to be able to add more life style posts to this blog; it’s just the time needed to so that I need to find!

I’ve had this dress for a couple years now and this is the first time I’ve worn it. I don’t know why because seeing these pictures reminds me how much I loved this outfit and I just want to keep remixing it! I tend to collect thrifted items, even when I have no idea how to style them, but when I figure it out, even years later, I’ll live in the damn thing!

Other things, I keep for years, even when they are literally falling apart, wearing them day after day. Like this jacket; it almost looks like it’s intentional, the grunge look. Not so, this jacket has just been overworn and is showing its age. Despite the little faux leather flakes that follow me around when I wear it, I love it just as much as when it was new. It is the perfect amount of worn in, and I think the wear almost adds to the image.

I hope I’m not the only one who has strange shopping and clothing habits. You should share yours in the comments to make me feel less like a hoarder!

Another day, another train ride!

I am homeward bound to Sacramento for the 4th of July holiday and a bit of wedding planning! My Grandpa’s birthday is the 4th of July and with such a large family (my Dad grew up with 9 brothers and sisters!), we have always had a family 4th party; we’ve always joked that he is so loved that the whole country celebrates his birthday! This is the first year that he is not with us on this day and it will be a bit hard not to see him, but we are continuing the family celebration in his honor. It is very much a casual backyard BBQ potluck with a small backyard fireworks show, hosted by my Dad who is the most entertaining person I know. It has always been one of my favorite holidays!

David was kind enough to snap these photos for me when he was dropping me off at the bus this morning. I had a different post planned for today that for timing reasons, we could not shoot for, so since we had about 10 minutes to wait for the bus, we snapped these quickly! This is my typical go to kind of outfit, especially with traveling, notice the layers! Nothing special or to write home about, but so comfortable and so typically just me.

These were taken on my very outdate iPhone camera and edited in Afterlight on the bus. I usually use a bit more of faded, vintage filters on my Instagram, but not my blog posts. This is a bit of a different look than what this blog is used to, but I love the old, faded look!

Apparently I was going for a bit of an urban cowboy look. And I am totally down with that.

Now to get back to watching the new Kate + 8 TLC special on this train. Yes, you read that right! my love of docu-reality TV will never fade.

p.s. Happiest of birthdays to my baby sister! She may be younger, but I look up to her as an inspiration!

Saturday was David and I’s 8 year anniversay. 8 years. Like, E-I-G-HT-. That is such a long time. We met right before I turned 20 and became official with the adorable, “Will you be my girlfriend?” question on the night before his brithdaty. So this weeked has always been a busy weekend of celebrating for us with our anniversary and his birthday. In just a few short months, we will have a new anniversary date after the wedding, but I will always hold “The 14th” close to my heart.

Do you remember when I wrote about our date to Cool Haus via HowAboutWe? That was a completely non sponsored post because I loved the idea of the web site and we are members on our own. So, imagine how excited I was to be invited by the HowAboutWe team to attend the Santa Monica Wine Festival on Saturday?! It was perfect timing with our anniversary!

HowAboutWe puts together some of the best and creative date options for couples in your city and offers each date at a per couple rate for members. David and I have been members for a few months now and have been satisifed with each date we have been on. It is such a great resource for those couples who always do the same thing, or who never know what to do! It solves the “Well, what do you want to do tonight?” dilemma. Plus, you get one free date night a month!

We spent some time at the Santa Monica Wine Festival before heading to our dinner resversations. I am not a wine lover, but I do like sweet, dessert wines. My favorite wine at the festival was Myx Fusions Moscato, especially the peach flavor. So sweet and crisp! I did try a lof of deeper, drier wines. I can see why people like them, but maybe my palette is not as sophisticated just yet. I tend to keep to white wines, the sweeter the better!

The next date that I have my eye on from HowAboutWe is the Outdoor Movie Screening and I think it was would hilarious to take the Hands-On Class at DJ Scratch Academy. I am telling you, they have some very unique, new date night ideas. Defintiely check out HowAboutWe for some of the best date night ideas

After the wine festival we had dinner at Firenze Osteria, my favorite Italian restaurants. There may be better ones, but I am such a big fan of Fabio Viviani of Top Chef fame, that I am loyal to Firenze Osteria! We ate until we hurt and then of course we went to get frozen yougurt because one, we’re classy, and two, we’re gluttons for punishment.

Our anniversary is special each year, but I think this one was the most because it is our last one on the original date. We originally planned to have our wedding day on June 14th, so we could keep the same anniversary for sentimental reasons, but that did not work with the venue we chose. Last night David says, “We were supposed to get married today!” I am actually happy that we are going to have a different wedding anniversary and dating anniversary because they are two very different times and aspects of our relationships. We will always give a nod to the 14th!

// I swear this was only our first drink! We used the new You&Me app photobooth feature. I always love photobooths and now I always have one! //

Yesterday we spent David’s birthday sleeping and eating bad food. There really is no other way to celebrate!

Being up in Sacramento is a total 180: It is FALL. It is the HOLIDAY season. I am so excited to be here right now. I am even more excited for Ugly Mug to get here tomorrow night! I am going to force him to participate in my holiday cheer and drink coco, pumpkin spice lattes and walk around malls to see all the over the top Christmas decorations, walk through crunchy leaves, and be around family. He may say that he hates it, but I know he doesn’t. How can anyone hate this season? I get so happy I could just burst! Holidays and Ugly Mug. My favorite.

Another thing I am so happy about that I may burst? My mom won a contest for Backstreet Boys’ meet and greet passes for me! I don’t care if I have met them a million times and seen them in concert even more than I can count, those are my Boys and their concerts are my happy place.

Holidays and the Backstreet Boys. Yes, please.

Even better, it is a Christmas concert. The Backstreet Boys will be singing Christmas songs. I may die.

Onto my grunge and 90’s inspired outfit that confused my parents. My dad told me to take off my diaper. Fair enough.

Stank face, much?

// Jacket: c/o Crossroads Trading Co // Top: H&M // Shirt: Thrifted via Goodwill // Pants: Thrifted via Crossroads Trading Co // Boots: Thrifted via Buffalo Exchange //

First, let’s start with the fact that it is leather jacket season. Yes. This marks the time that I transition where I would wear my denim jacket, to leather jackets. And Crossroads Trading Co just sent me the perfect faux leather jacket. It’s like butta’. I’m so in love.

Also, I cannot stop tying shirts around my waist. Particulary plaid shirts.

I this a returning trend that you are a fan of, or should it be left in the 90’s?

I am a 90’s lover all the way, so I say bring it back! And if it doesn’t come back, I’ll still be here. Chillin’ out with my shirt tied around my waist for no reason. I wore this outfit three times in one week and I never actually put that shirt on. Don’t let other’s lie and say they do it to be practical and have another layer with them; they are not planning on putting it on, no matter how cold they get.

So, that was quite a blog break, huh? I needed a bit of recovery time after getting back from the Backstreet Boys cruise. The cruise was no joke. You think you’ve paritied before? Go on a Backstreet Boys cruise and you’ll turn up see. I really did want to use “turn up”, but I am definitely not that cool.

You missed me right? I did say I would share some photos from the cruise, but, they are rather, how should I put it, unbefitting to say the least. What happens on the cruise, stays on the cruise. Like Vegas. That’s a lie, it ends up on FaceBook. And a little on Instagram. If you want to see me bobbing for apples with AJ McLean, I suggest check out my Instagram.

Another completely thrifted outfit, the jacket being the exception. Thifting is my absolute favorite, although I have not been in so long. Yes, it may be more affordable than shopping full price, but it still involves the exchange of money for goods and every penny lately has already been allocated to other needs. I finally have some Crossroads Trading Co credit from selling a ton of my clothes a couple of weeks back, so I am super excited to go pick up some new Autumn clothes! Maybe I’ll pick up something for Ugly Mug too; he deserves a little gift every once in a while too!

He has actually taken over Thursday night cooking duties, so now Thursday, already being my favorite day of the week for no reason at all, has gotten that much better. I think he secretly likes it because I came home last night to him cooking again. On a Sunday. Don’t tell anyone, but he also woke up early today to cook. Just saying. I created my own personal chef.

Also, look Ma, no roots! My hair got some much needed love yesterday! I feel so much better; my roots were definitely dragging me down. How superficial do I sound right now?

Most people start out the week refreshed, at their best, and ready to roll with the punches. Me, apparently not so much. This morning I had a moment of, “I have things to do, that I don’t necessarily want to do, but at the same time want to, and need to, so throw me that t-shirt and let’s get it over with!.” Not in a lazy, complaining way, just in a “I’m not sure if it’s worth it way, but dammit I’m going to try.” On another note, good vibes in general are appreciated! Let’s make a deal: Good vibes for good vibes. Sounds like the beginning of a beautiful friendship!

Look, Ma, no hat! Just roots. Terrible, terrible roots. Has anyone tried any at home root touch up kits?

This is somewhat of my uniform; tee, jeans, some thing nearby to throw on when I get chilly. I am always cold. I bring sweaters with me everywhere, even in the middle of summer. Movie theaters, grocery stores, office buildings: I’m not sure why the air conditioning has to be full blast at all times, but I will be prepared.
