Last week was a little cra-mazing. Yeah, I had to go there.

I have recently been getting into modeling, and it still baffles me when I get invited to a casting, test shoot, or book a job. Not that I have booked many jobs just yet, but it is really intimidating being on set, even when it is just me. Add hundreds of other stunning models and a runway and I was holding my breath all last week, just waiting for someone to tell me that I was booked by mistake and it was time to go home. I was one of the 220 models to represent Wella Professionals during the week of the North American Trend Vision Awards in Vegas.

It started last Saturday; prep day! My hair was colored (you can see the initial results HERE) and honestly, it was not my favorite look. My hair has always been a big part of my identity; it’s always been long, big, and, save for one day eight years ago, my natural color. There may have been a couple tears shed when I got home. All in the name of art! Luckily, towards the end of the week, I got some highlights on the bottom layer and lowlights on the top and my color is definitely more even, and less tear inducing.

Last Sunday, I arrived in Vegas and headed straight to work. Sunday was a small presentation, but the first that I have ever done any kind of ‘runway’ walk. Prepping with makeup, hair, and wardrobe is always fun, but when the time came to actually “work”, I just about wet myself. Luckily, that did not happen and the first night went off flawlessly.

The next day was the biggest show of the week for me, I was walking on an actual stage runway and getting my hair styled on stage in front of hundreds of people. The only thing going through my head the whole time I was on stage was “Stand up straight! Sit up straight! Don’t react if he pulls my hair too hard!” My mom will be proud to know that I apparently set the standard for correct posture when sitting on the stage.

Fast forward to the last show and presentation on Friday and Saturday and I felt more excited than nervous.

The strangest part was seeing people take photos of me, or my hair presumably, and being fawned over daily with hair and makeup.

The best part was the new friendships I made. I went in expecting to be the outcast, surrounded by stereotypical, shallow models, but I met the nicest, funniest, most down to earth, supportive girls. I believe I have made at least a couple of real friends from this experience.

I am really encouraged to take more risks, really move forward with this whole modeling field and see where I can go with it.

Enough with the sappy feelings, here are some photos, some from my phone, some professional, some stolen from stranger’s instagrams (so please excuse the differences in size and quality), to give you an idea of my week.

I want to share many more photos, but this is enough overload for now. If I recieve any other professional photos from stage, I may share them.

I will leave you with this gem though. Leo babies united in Vegas!

P.S. Models, myself included, are obsessed with taking selfies. It is embraced, and expected.
